1990-1995 - KLRQ - Adult Contemporary (Day)/Album Rock (Night)
A rare combo - this station played Adult Contemporary hits in the day, and switched to album rock at night. The call letters were first assigned in February of 1988, and KLRQ signed on October 5, 1990.
1995-2003 - KLRQ - Adult Rock - "Q96 FM"
This really isn't a KC station, but they covered a lot of ground, and many east side residents could hear it like a local station (at least before all those cell phone towers were built). In 1995, KLRQ went rock full-time. This was a station where you would likely hear anything-- The Jam next to Heart, Beach Boys next to Robert Cray, Poison next to Shivaree, Duran Duran next to Stephen Stills. The station was locally-owned, and had a stand-out morning show (the GM and News Anchor - AKA "The Breakfast Brothers"). The only fault was that they would take on any syndicated show that came about, which required a lot of hours on the weekends.
2003-current - KLRQ - Sat. Contemporary Christian (K-Love)
EMF bought the station in 2003, and switched to the K-Love network as the calendar turned to November. The station is essentially a very powerful translator with miniscule local programming. KLRQ has one public affairs program airing occasionally on Sunday nights at 7:30.
