1953-1969 - KFEQ-TV - CBS/Dumont, CBS/ABC, ABC|
KFEQ-TV signed on September 27, 1953 as a CBS/DuMont station. They became a dual CBS/ABC affiliate in 1955, following the shutdown of the DuMont network, and eventually, just an ABC affiliate in 1967. KFEQ went through a number of sales, with the original owner, Barton Pitts selling in 1955. The second owner sold out in 1957. Panax Corporation bought KFEQ-TV and radio in 1963.
1969-2009 - KQTV - ABC "KQ-2"
KFEQ-TV changed call letters to KQTV upon separation from the radio station, which had been sold. Nextstar bought KQTV in 1997. It doesn't look so bad for a station in market #200. However, as the only network affiliate in the St. Joseph market, they're forced to compete against Kansas City stations, which really isn't fair. KQTV signed off its analog signal June 12, 2009.
2003-current - KQTV-DT
KQTV-DT signed on at channel 53 in 2003. In February 2009, they moved their digital signal to channel 7, which had been vacated by KMBC-DT. Even in the digital era, KQTV is one of a few stations in the country still signing off at night. KQTV leaves the air around 1:05 a.m. and returns at 5:00 in the morning.
